Making A Statement About Your Beliefs With A Flag

Posted by Bryan on 7/20/2012 to About Flags
When you look around you can see that there are fun garden type flags and there are those flags that represent a time in history, a specific event, or even a set of beliefs that a person holds. Flags can say quite a bit about a person and where they stand. The following are some of the most common types of flags and the way in which they can be interpreted.

Country & City Flags

These usually represent pride and patriotism. These flags, such as the American flag for example stand for a respect one has for their country and those who have fought to keep it free. It is also a flag that is flown by many who have served in different branches of the military as well.

Historic Flags

Historic flags are very popular but there are a few that evoke mixed feelings whey observed flying. Perhaps the two most controversial flags that can be seen flying around are the confederate flag and the Nazi flag. Each of these holds historic significance but also tends to bring up feelings of anger and hate because of the actions by those the flag initially represented. Many fly them today as symbols but they are still revered as disrespectful by many in the U.S. and around the world.

There are historic flags, however, such as the Don't Tread on Me Tea Party flag that are growing in popularity today. This flag represents telling the government to step off our rights and this flag is being flown all around the U.S. today in front of homes and businesses.

Military Flags

Each branch of the military also has their own flag. Once again these flags are symbols of pride. They are flown to represent a pride in the work that each of these groups has performed to protect this land and our country.

Holiday Flags

A good way to announce an upcoming event or holiday is with a flag. Many have flags that represent each holiday and fly them in front of their residence or business at the right time of year. This can be a fun way to get into the holiday spirit.

Flags can represent a lot of different things. Most people fly a flag to let the world know what they think of something. It is a fun way to express how you feel.
